Going Green

Looking for ways to reduce the cost of your insurance? Considering ‘going green’. Many companies are offering a great deal of incentives and discounts for those of us who are willing to help reduce our carbon footprint and help to give Mother Earth a break.

Some insurance companies have started rewarding discounts and cheaper coverage to people who are willing to ‘go green’ at home. If you drive a hybrid car, have an energy-efficient home, or take part in other energy saving practices, you could save serious money on your insurance. Allstate and Travelers both offer a 5% to 10% discount for people who take part in these practices, including those who use environmentally friendly materials, or use energy saving equipment in their homes, such as windmills, solar panels, etc.

The reason that these companies are jumping on the green bandwagon is easy. Not only does it help the environment, but it ends up saving everyone (including the providers) money on insurance! The cleaner the air, the less amount of energy consumed, etc, the less claims are filed, and the less money is spent on environment-related claims. In the case of hybrid cars, the money that is saved is astronomical.

Studies also show that people who ‘go green’ in the home, and in their automobiles, tend to be more responsible, ethical people. This means you’re more likely to pay your bills on time and choose the insurance plans that are right for you and your family. That is the kind of customer the insurers want.
